About Us

Respiratory Health Association is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization and has been a local public health leader since 1906. At that time, tuberculosis was a prominent health threat in our community. As health practices and treatments have evolved, so has RHA.

Today RHA addresses asthma, COPD, lung cancer, tobacco control, COVID-19, and air quality with a comprehensive approach. RHA delivers a sustainable plan for local education, research, and policy change efforts to promote healthy lungs and clean air.

RHA celebrates the unique history and architecture of Chicago in their events. Each February, thousands of people climb to the top of Chicago?s skyline at the former Hancock building, ending on the 94th floor at 360 CHICAGO observation deck. After the 1,632 step journey, they celebrate their accomplishment with other lung health heroes ? all while enjoying sweeping city and lake views. At Wine & Design in May, attendees explore the stunning showrooms of THE MART?s first floor as they enjoy wine tastings from around the world.

Since 2012, RHA has funded over $1.7 million in lung cancer research projects at U.S. medical institutions. Each year, RHA's health educators give presentations to thousands of Chicago Public Schools students about asthma and the dangers of vaping. RHA's lung health publications can be found in local hospitals being handed out to newly diagnosed patients.
